Wii?

Postby moueska » Wed Dec 30, 2009 12:42 am

I got a Wii for Christmas, and the only thing on it right now is Wii Sports, intarwebz, and a few demos.

Are there any games I should be looking for used? We did get an extra wiimote/Nunchuck, so 2-4 player games aren't entirely out.

So far a Zelda game has been suggested, and I'm planning on getting a balance board at some point. I've heard good things about the lego games, but... yeah. Not much else.

Give me a range of awesome.

Ok, short list of awesome, in no particular order:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (though you may have gathered that from the Brawl night thread)
Mario Kart Wii
Zelda: Twilight Princess (as already mentioned)
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3 (or even better, Metroid Prime Trilogy)
The Conduit
Wii Sports Resort
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition

Those are my "highly recommended" ones that I've had experience with.

May I also add a couple of games? Depending on your tastes, if you like strategy games, then I highly recommend Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and Phantom Brave: We Meet Again, which may be my favorite Nippon Ichi game.

Mario Strikers is also insanely fun. You will see Mario cast members at their most bad-ass and hardcore.

I keep thinking about Phantom Brave... I might spring for it soon. We're watching for the Mario games, too- but since it was right after Christmas, the gamestop shelves were kinda empty.

Everyone keeps telling me to get the Wii fit, but I'm too cheap to buy a balance board.

My other half snuck on and downloaded Onslaught and seems pretty happy with it. Alien FPS with maggots and whatnots. The graphics are pretty good, though...

Ehhhhh, you might want to skip Wii Fit. Apparently you have to be fairly dedicated in order to enjoy it, my sister being a good example. She really enjoys it, but rarely ever plays it.

Phantom Brave gets high marks for best Nippon Ichi story by far. Of course, the play is really good. There's a mean learning curve, but as with all NI games, the endgame is so fun that it pays off to get into it.

I hear Wii Fit yells at you if you neglect it.

Ugh, I take back what I said about Wii Fit/Wii Fit Plus. Somehow my sister got me sucked into it, and although it was fun while it lasted, I can't remember a recent time where I've been so bloody sore.

And yeah, it does yell at you if you don't play it regularly.

*casts REVIVE on thread*

Any updates moueska?

If you like downloadable content, they made a new Tetris game available. It's quite nice in a frantic sort of way.

Does New Super Mario Bros. Wii have online play?
I played it with my sister and her boyfriend, and we sucked, but it was hilarious. Unless you're in sync with each other, you're basically bouncing off each other and into enemies and pits. Gets a bit claustrophobic.

I've heard that multiplayer platforming is hard to get right. Often you'll have the stronger player blazing ahead, while the weaker player just tries to keep up.
